The world’s first Domino’s container store to open in Tawa

Pizza chain Domino’s is to open its first container store in Main Road, Tawa, aiming to roll out more stores around the world.

Different to the chain’s usual restaurant layout, the container store is more compact and has an optimised internal layout. The store will act similarly to a drive thru: customers will pick up their food at the store window and can eat at the outside sitting area.

“Our Tawa store may look a little different, but our customers can expect the same impeccable product quality and service they would from a normal Domino’s store,” said Stephan Thudichum, franchisee.

“We’re also bringing our very distinctive UBCO ebikes to the area. They are not only environmentally friendly but they are quiet too, making us great neighbours.”

The container concept is set to be rolled out across Domino’s 10 markets as part of its expansion plan. The concept was launched in order to reduce the delivery distance, ensuring the better quality of the pizza while reducing footprint area.

“Time is the enemy of food,” said Cameron Toomey, GM at Domino’s NZ.

“A key component to achieving this 10-minute delivery target is to reduce the distance from the store to your door. This means opening more stores, closer to our customers, for improved customer satisfaction.”

“We’ll be looking to raise funds for local community organisations through our ‘Doughraiser’ program, and supporting those doing it tough by providing them with a safe, hot meal through our Feed The Knead initiative.”

Domino’s Tawa was opened by franchisees Stephan Thudichum and Chris Donnelly, with Stephan stepping up to take the lead and Chris offering support while continuing to run another store in Blenheim.
