A new shopping mall project, Rolleston Fields, is scheduled for construction in South Island town, 22km outside Christchurch.

Rolleston Fields will house general retailers, bars and eateries, offices, a farmers market, and an entertainment and cinema complex. Built by Cooper Developments, about 10,000sqm of the space will be used for retail space and a further 1200sqm for hospitality.

In terms of tenants, the company said it wants to create “something for the families and locals to get excited about”.

Divided into four phases, the project is expected to take five years to finish.

The project, estimated to worth $85 million once completed, is expected to further boost the local economy. Rolleston Fields is part of the local authority’s long-term plan to form a new community in the town. According to Stuff, The district council expects 24,000 people to live in Rolleston by 2040.
