Foodstuffs joins climate change coalition

Foodstuffs New Zealand has joined other businesses to help New Zealand transition to a low emissions economy through collective action.

The retailer has announced it has joined the Climate Leaders Coalition to formally link its sustainability ambitions to the Coalition’s mission to tackle climate change and help New Zealand work towards a low emissions future.

Steve Anderson, Foodstuffs managing director, signed the Coalition’s Climate Change statement on behalf of the company and said that as one of New Zealand’s largest enterprises it is entirely appropriate that they join other businesses in helping New Zealand reach a common goal.

He added that in doing so, they could all help create a positive future for New Zealanders and businesses.

“We have been working to reduce our emissions for many years, but I’m certain that as part of the Climate Leaders Coalition there will be more that we can learn and implement,” Anderson said.

Anderson said they are confident that this initiative will resonate strongly with the aspirations of their suppliers, customers and the communities of which their stores are part of.

“Surveys show 95 per cent of New Zealanders say they are leading a more sustainable lifestyle, and as a retailer our role is to help them do this.”
