Delivery provider DHL Express has added three electric vehicles to its New Zealand fleet, with the aim of reducing all logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050.

The vehicles, which will be used for pick-up and delivery services across Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington, are expected to reduce CO2 emissions by about 80 per cent.

“The decisions we make today will have an impact on the future generation and therefore it is critical for us to make the right decisions today,” DHL Express New Zealand Country Manager Mark Foy said.

“[This] is a significant step towards our goal of becoming a zero-emissions logistics provider.”

The vehicles have been partly funded by the New Zealand Government through its Low Emissions Vehicles Contestables Fund, which seeks to expand the use of electric vehicles and other low emissions technology in the transport space.

In line with this goal, the DHL Express business aims to globally operate 70 per cent of its first and last mile services with clean pick-up and delivery solutions by 2025, such as using e-mobility and green delivery solutions in its operations.

“We are committed to delivering excellent service to our customers and working with them to achieve sustainable growth,” Foy said.
