American model Karlie Kloss has kicked off David Jones Autumn/Winter fashion show at a runway event in Sydney’s CBD last night.

The blonde former Victoria’s Secret model was the major international star flown over by DJs to open their seasonal show on Wednesday in Sydney.

Kloss walked the runway in a marquee, set up in the forecourt of St Mary’s Cathedral in the city, wearing a stripy blue and white skirt and blouse two-piece by Australian design house macgraw.

Australian model Jesinta Franklin (formerly Campbell), an ambassador for the Aussie store, sang Kloss’s praises before the show’s dress rehearsal.

“It’s great that she’s in town,” Franklin told AAP.

“I got to meet her for the first time yesterday and she’s really sweet. She’s such a lovely young girl and so successful as well, which is really inspiring,” she said.

Franklin appeared a total of six times in the fashion show wearing designs by Australian designers including Romance Was Born, Camilla and Alice McCall.

The fashion show taking place in the gothic surrounds of St Mary’s showcased some strong 1980s influences, with high-waisted trousers, velvet materials and ruffles taking over the runway and bell-sleeves showing no signs of going away.

It is also the first time David Jones has put its bridal designs down the catwalk with both Franklin and Jessica Gomes appearing in wedding gowns.

Kloss walked the runway a total of three times opening the show, walking for Australian designer Ellery and then closing the show in a black velvet, floor-length off-the-shoulder gown.
