Michael Hill in New York

DSC_0240smlMichael Hill Jewellers has come a long way from its New Zealand home, opening its first store in New York City in the US.

A second New York store is scheduled to open later this year in Roosevelt Field, Garden City.

Founder, Michael Hill, accompanied by his wife Christine and daughter Emma, deputy chair of Michael Hill International, attended the official opening of the store at Queen’s Center in Elmhurst.

The store features jewellery ranges from both Michael Hill and Emma & Roe.

According to Hill, it has been a labour of love to establish a presence in New York, and that for jewellery and romance New York is as good as it gets.

In January Michael Hill spearheaded a drive that saw advertisements screen on Canadian and Chicago television during the 2015 NFL Super Bowl for its ‘We’re for Love’ campaign filmed on the streets of New York, for which it received acclaim. Super Bowl adverts allege that the cost amounted to $4.5 million.

Filmed on the streets of New York, the campaign celebrated love in all its forms, helping to set the scene for the arrival of two stores to open in the city.

The NY launch follows success in other states; the company currently has more than 290 Michael Hill Jewellers and eight Emma & Roe stores around New Zealand, Australia, the US, and Canada.
